Circuitry in Hearing Aids
The mechanisms of hearing aid devices are different. These types of mechanisms can be used in any of the different styles.
Analog/Adjustable Hearing Aids
The analog/adjustable hearing aids have the least expensive internal circuitry. Your audiologist will determine the volume and other specs that you will need in your hearing aid. Kind of like eyeglasses, your hearing aid is build to meet those specifications. Your audiologist can make adjustments.
Analog/Programmable Hearing Aids
The analog/programmable circuitry can be used in all types of hearing aids, and accommodates more than one setting. Your audiologist will determine the volume and other specs that you need by using a computer to program your hearing aid. Some analog/programmable models come with a remote control device that the wearer can use to change the program for different listening environments.
Digital/Programmable Hearing Aids
Digital circuitry in the hearing aid is the most flexible -- and generally the most expensive. Your audiologist can program your hearing aid with a computer and adjust the sound quality and response time on an individual basis. A microphone, receiver, battery and computer chip are used in the digital hearing aids. The digital circuitry can be used in all types of hearing aids.
