Hearing Loss Treatments
There are surgical procedures that can be performed to repair conductive hearing loss (i.e., hearing loss caused by a defect in the outer or middle ear). Operations to replace the stirrup bone or all three tiny bones with tissue or synthetic material can be performed to repair a punctured eardrum. Sometimes a surgical procedure will be employed to clear a chronically infected middle ear.
Hearing aids are often helpful in restoring hearing. Note that hearing aids should be purchased only after testing by a specialist. An audiologist can suggest the most appropriate type of hearing aid that will benefit the patient.
