Purchasing a Hearing Aid

When you buy a hearing aid, you should have a contract or purchase agreement that covers all terms of the transaction, including a clear explanation of all verbal promises. Review your purchase agreement for the following and ask your supplier for clarification if the terms are not clear:

  • Is your hearing aid covered by a warranty, and  if so, is the warranty honored by the manufacturer or the disperser?  Sometimes a manufacturer may not honor its warranty if the hearing aid is not purchased by a seller that has been authorized by the manufacturer.
  • What services—if any—will be provided free of charge?  For example, will adjustments to your hearing aid be provided at no charge and if so, for how long?
  • If your hearing aid needs repair, will you be entitled to a "loaner" or replacement?

You might also want to check with your supplier to see if batteries can readily be purchased.
